A clump-forming, perennial wildflower with showy bright yellow blossoms, blooming mid summer to early fall. It is closely related to and often mistaken for members of the Helianthus genus (sunflowers). Attracts some pollinators and beneficial insects. Prefers dry sites and upland areas.
Plant Description
Features tall, sturdy stems adorned with lance-shaped, toothed leaves that are bright green and slightly hairy. Atop each stem sits a vibrant daisy-like flower with yellow-orange petals surrounding a prominent dark brown center. These flowers create a striking contrast against the foliage, adding a splash of cheerful color to gardens and natural landscapes throughout the summer months.

Range
Native to a large portion of North America, primarily found in the central and eastern regions of the United States. It is distributed from the Great Plains eastward to the Atlantic coast and from southern Canada southward into parts of Mexico.
