A wetland sedge growing on shore edges and in shallow water, or in wet meadows. This species can form dense mats of vegetation, providing excellent cover for smaller wildlife.
Plant Description
Usually growing in dense mats 1-2' tall. Hollow, cylindrical stems. Flowers are racemes with spikelets. Looking at the plant from directly above, the narrow leaves stick out in three directions, which is where Dulichium arundinaceum gets its common name.

Range
Common throughout the eastern half of the United States, most common in the northeast, along the Atlantic coast, and in areas surrounding the Great Lakes. Some populations in the Pacific Northwest, and in California. Rare populations in Wyoming, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.
