General

A North American wildflower known for its heart-shaped leaves and clusters of small, daisy-like flowers. Blooming in late summer to fall, it adds a splash of lavender-blue color to woodland edges, meadows, and gardens, attracting pollinators like butterflies and bees. Will grow best in sites with partial shade.

Plant Description

Displays robust stems adorned with distinctive heart-shaped leaves that give it a unique appearance. From late summer into early fall, it produces clusters of small, daisy-like flowers with lavender-blue petals and yellow centers, creating a profusion of color in natural settings and gardens alike. Smooth stems are thin, and green or reddish brown in color. Growing 2-3' tall.

According to BRIT - Native American Ethnobotany Database, the Ojibwe would use the root of this aster to recreate the scent deer leaves behind in order for more successful hunting.
